FOCCUS
Introduction
FOCCUS (Facilitating Open Couple Communication Understanding and Study) is an inventory designed to provide engaged and other pre-marital and married couples and those assisting them with a personalised profile or "needs analysis" of what is important in their marriage preparation or relationship evaluation process. It is both a starting place and a map of what issues and skills need time and attention. It gives couples content for reflection and discussion and allows those working with them to promote additional discussion or learning opportunities.
FOCCUS deals with both basic issues and special issues, such as family of origin, handling two careers in a marriage, patterns around different forms of abuse, cohabitation, interfaith marriages and remarriage.
It can be administered by professional or lay facilitators. A facilitator Notebook provides clear direction and there are one-day training programmes and a training video.
Foccus is not intended to label or categorise people, but to promote discussion and further education.
REFOCCUS is an inventory which can be used for marriage enrichment.
There are several scoring options available for the inventory. The inventory comes on four editions: General, Christian Non-denominational, Catholic and Alternate for learning disabled. It is available in braille and a number of different languages.
